The morning started right away as Eric waited in the parking lot for people to arrive. Not one to just stay still, he was busy scanning the Canada Goose flock in the parking lot. One bird in the group looked good for a cackling goose possibility, but the determination was not definite. A car drove through and scattered the flock, so Eric decided to set out for the woods. The cool but nicely sunny morning had 8 people show up, and off we went to check out the forest areas.
The birding was not the most exciting and other years have definitely had more quantity and quality. The pine forest was checked but did not reveal any evidence of owls. The group looped around toward the water and we did add some species to our meager list.
Back at the parking lot, some of the group called it a day and headed home. The rest of us went up the road to the Bartow Mansion, and we added a few more species to the list, but again, no owls.
Highlights were: Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser, Red-throated Loon, Red-tailed Hawk, Killdeer, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, American Robin
Bartow Mansion: Cedar Waxwing, Chipping Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Common Grackle , Purple Finch, American Goldfinch
