Participate in QCBC’s Big Sit!
Coordinated by Corey Finger
The Big Sit! is an annual, international, noncompetitive birding event hosted by Bird Watcher’s Digest and founded by the New Haven (Connecticut) Bird Club.
The Big Sit! is like a Big Day or a bird-a-thon in that the object is to tally as many bird species as can be seen or heard within 24 hours. The difference is that ‘sitters’ are restricted to tallying only while confined within a space 17 feet in diameter; but Sitters may come and go and the circle need not be occupied for the entire 24 hours.
Participate in this event by getting donations & pledges or by finding birds at the our Big Sit! or both!
Use Facebook, email and the telephone to invite your friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor us. Contributions will help support our free field trips, monthly speakers and programs, and Citizen Science projects such as the Christmas Bird Count.
Fill out the sponsor pledge form giving your sponsors the option of making a fixed donation which you can collect at that time, or a per-species pledge that you will collect after the event is concluded.
Bring lawn chairs, bug spray, food, drinks and whatever you need to have a great time.
After the event contact sponsors who pledged and remind them of their commitment. Encourage them to get their contributions to you ASAP but within two weeks of The Big Sit!
Checks should be made out to the Queens County Bird Club Inc. Or paid online at Cash.me/$QCBC.
Have the sponsor put “Big Sit” in the comment field.
Thank your sponsors. We will provide each sponsor a formal acknowledgment letter when their pledge is received. They can use this for tax purposes so remind your sponsors that their donations are 100% TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
Start asking potential donors as soon as possible to maximize our results!
